Attn: Book Publishers

Are you in charge of getting the word out about the new nonfiction books to hit the shelves? Great – I love reviewing books sent straight from the publishers or authors. :-D I have listed my criteria below – please check it out:

  • I don’t do PDF files or self-published books, period. My apologies in advance.
  • I do not like (and therefore do not review) books about following topics:
    • health
    • weight-loss
    • poetry
    • Christian religion
    • positive thinking
    • philosophy
    • self-help books of any stripe or variety
  • You will find the occasional exception on my site, but 99.999% of the time, the above applies.  Please don’t ask for me to review any of those types of books because I will say no.
  • I do, however, enjoy reading books about the following topics:
    • science (especially space/astronomy, dinosaurs, the ocean, cool technological breakthroughs, etc)
    • business/technology/internet 2.0, etc.
    • love and relationships
    • politics (I am open to both liberal and conservative books, although be forewarned: I tend to take the middle road on political matters, so if the book is extreme, I probably won’t want to read it)
    • polygamy (don’t ask me why, but I find the topic fascinating)
    • children’s books, although I have no children, so child-rearing books are a no-go for me. But I enjoy nonfiction children’s books and have reviewed quite a few on my site.
    • finances, at both a national level or personal finances
    • Teaching/educational books are definitely something I’d be interested in – I am going to school to become an elementary teacher, so anything on that subject would be awesome.
    • autobiographies and biographies are both a huge favorite.
    • Living green/back to the basics/homesteading
    • historical books (what happened in WWII or the Middle Ages)
    • animal stories (like Marley and Me or Seabiscuit)
    • paranormal, both pro and the “debunking” books
    • survival stories/action stories
    • gardening/cleaning/cooking books are all fun for me, along with the “tips and ideas” types of books. Also building or remodeling your home is interesting to me.
    • And more, I’m sure!  (As you can tell, I have pretty eclectic tastes.)
  • Because I pride myself on writing what I think, not necessarily what the author might hope I will say, I cannot guarantee that my review of the book will be positive. Sorry. But I do try my hardest to be impartial and list what it is that I do and do not like about a book, instead of just ripping it apart for the heck of it.
  • I do NOT review FICTION books, period. I review nonfiction books only (hence the name).
  • At the moment, my turnaround time on a book would be quick – I can post a review within a week or two of receiving it. I am attending college, however, so there are exceptions (like the week of finals, etc).
  • I only post my reviews here on my site currently, although that policy might change as I further explore being a self-hosted blog.  Although my site, Nonfiction Book Review, is a new site, I have been blogging for almost a year over at Today.com as a nonfiction book review blogger, so I have a dedicated group of readers despite how young this particular blog is.  And as time goes on, I hope to be able to regain my Google traffic.

Still interested? Hop on over to my contact page and send me an email. Make sure to use the email address where you want me to contact you. We can arrange then for the book to be sent to me; once I finish reading the book, I usually arrange to give it away as a prize on my site.  If that is not okay, please be sure to tell me beforehand.

I hope to hear from you soon!
